Keloid scars are very similar to hypertrophic scars. They can be differentiated from hypertrophic scars by their lack of growth outside the original wound area. Keloid scars are commonly caused by surgery, accident, skin burns, chicken pox, acne or,
sometimes, body piercings. However, in some people,
keloid scars form spontaneously. It is not adivisable to treat keloid scars with surgery.
